Silicone rubber

Offers good resistance to extreme temperature, being able to operate normally from -55°C (-67°F) to +300°C (572°F). At extreme temperatures, silicone’s tensile strength, elongation, tear strength and compression set can be far superior to conventional rubbers. Organic rubber has a carbon to carbon backbone that leaves it susceptible to heat, ozone, UV, and other aging factors. In contrast, silicone rubber, with its silicon-oxygen linkages found in other high temperature materials such as quartz, glass, and sand, can withstand extreme exposures.

Fluorosilicone

is the common name for fluorovinylmethyl silicone rubber. Fluorosilicones combine the best properties of fluorocarbons and silicones. Fluorosilicones resist solvents, fuel, and oil (similar to fluorocarbons). It also has high and low temperature stability (as with silicones). Fluorosilicone is resilient, with low compression set characteristics. General temperature range: -57°C (-70°F) to +177°C (+350°F). Higher temperature ranges can be formulated.

Viton® Fluoroelastomer

is the most specified fluoroelastomer, well known for its excellent (400°F/200°C) heat resistance. Viton® offers excellent resistance to aggressive fuels and chemicals.

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)

has outstanding heat, ozone and weather resistance. The resistance to polar substances and steam are also good. It has excellent electrical properties, and good resistance to abrasion, some chemicals and weather.

 

Silicone rubber and fluorosilicone is offered in extruded, molded or fabricated form; Viton®, Fluorocarbon rubber, and EPDM rubber are offered in molded or fabricated form.
